OGRE HISTORY

The Original Ogre Phi Ogre

The origin of Ogre Phi Ogre was a phenomenon that led to the establishment of what has become an ongoing class tradition of naming incoming freshmen classes. Now a Hampton legend, Ogre Phi Ogre tops the list with at least 17 ensuing classes. Little did we know back in 1969, when we, as the 100th freshman class, graced the front steps of Ogden Hall, walked and laid on the waterfront, blocked entry for the board of trustees, and demanded change, that we were setting a tradition. From that point forward, every fourth year freshman class would be named Ogre Phi Ogre. We were the first, number one, the trendsetters, the ORIGINAL class of Ogre Phi Ogre. Now is the time to tell the tale, as we know it, although it is always subject to change.
